BOAT COVER Peer to Peer Insurance FAQs

We understand that our boat owners and rental customers need peace of mind that they are insured for the unlikely and accidental events that may occur during a boat hire. Book My Boat’s BOAT COVER insurance provides coverage for loss or damage to the boat, machinery & equipment up to $250,000 and legal liability for the rental customer up to $10,000,000.

Who are the insured parties under the insurance policy?

Book My Boat, the Hirer, and the Boat Owner.

What types of boats are covered?

The following boats are covered: dinghys, runabouts, open boats, cabin boats, console boats, cruisers, ski-boats, sail boats, poly boats and pontoon boats, that are all less than 12 metres in length that maintain AMSA hire registration/survey/non survey certification.

What types of boats are not covered?

The following boats are not covered: canoes, hydroplanes, kayaks, kit boats, houseboats, barges, porta botes, rowing sculls, jet skis, sailing trimarans, sailing skiffs, sailboards, surf skis, dragon boats, hovercrafts, racing yachts or any boats or vessels that are 12 metres or more in length.

What is the boat covered for?

BOAT COVER insurance covers:

a) Loss or damage to an owner’s boat caused by an insured event occurring in Australia whilst the boat is rented through Book My Boat that is directly or indirectly caused by an act or omission of the boat renter subject to the cover limit; and

b) All amounts up to $10,000,000 the renter of the boat is legally liable to pay as compensation in respect of death, bodily injury or property damage happening whilst the boat is rented through Book My Boat.

The following summary gives you an overview of what each booking is covered for under the BOAT COVER insurance policy.

Excess

The excess payable per claim is directly related to the sum insured value of the boat as per the below table. The excess is payable by the customer for each claim. The value of the excess payable is dependant on the customers participation in the Excess Buy Down Scheme.

What is not covered for?

Loss or Damage to Sports, Fishing, Diving Equipment

Pre-existing Damage to the vessel that did not occur outside of the hire period.

Loss or Damage caused by the Vessel being unseaworthy or arising from lack of maintenance.

Loss or Damage to Motor(s) when secured to your vessel in a manner other than that specified or recommended by the manufacturer of the Motor(s) or the Vessel.

Loss or Damage caused by ordinary wear and tear, deterioration, vermin, corrosion, electrolysis, delamination, mould, rusting, wet or dry rot, marine growth.

Mechanical, structural, electrical or electronic failures unless caused by an accident covered by this policy.
Loss or damage to tyres or wheel rims of your trailer caused by braking, punctures, cuts or bursts.

Liability for the boat owner or Book My Boat if deemed negligent in their actions leading to an incident

Liability for bodily harm or death incurred whilst participating in watersports activities.

The use of any diving, fishing, sports, waterskiing or aquaplaning equipment;

Death or bodily injury caused by the activity of: scuba diving, diving or diving operations, or in connection with the supplying, usage and/or instructions in the use of Diving Equipment, diving accessories and similar equipment,

o boom netting, waterskiing or aquaplaning,
o snorkelling or tunnel diving,
o towing of persons or objects in the air including
o parasailing,
o any other activity involving swimming by persons carried by the Vessel;

When is the boat insured?

The policy is only valid during the period the renter has rented the boat through Book My Boat.

How much is the boat insured for?

The maximum amount we will pay for loss or damage to a boat that is covered is the sum insured value or market value of the boat u to a maximum of $250,000 per claim. The market value is what it would cost to replace the boat using factors such as local market prices and the age and condition of the boat.

Does this policy replace the need for regular boat insurance?

No. This policy will only cover the boat during a period of rental through Book My Boat and only covers loss or damage to the boat by specific insured events directly or indirectly caused by an act or omission of a renter. It is expected and recommended that the owner will hold comprehensive insurance for the boat.

Where is the boat covered?

The policy covers hired vessels in AMSA survey registration/exemption – General Use. Individual vessel inland and coastal waters of Australia up to 50 nautical miles to sea but always within the certificate of operation limits stipulated by any Government or other Regulated Authority

What other rules apply to the insurance cover?

All boats must be operated in accordance with their certificate of operation limits stipulated by any Government or other Regulated Authority All state-based boat licencing laws apply. Hirers must have a recreational boat licence recognised in the state where the hire is completed.

Claims

If an incident has occurred during the rental of your boat, you can make a claim by contacting us at admin@bookmyboat.com with the following information:

a) Your customer ID
b) Date of incident
c) Time of incident
d) Details of incident
e) Any evidence of the incident/damage (pictures, correspondence with the renter etc)

Once we receive this notice of claim from you, we will lodge the claim. A member of the BOAT COVER claim team will be in contact with you within 48 hours.
